Libra is pictorially represented by the Scales of Justice, because it rules trials, the courts, justice, judgement, fairness and the letter of the law. In all judgements there is a tug of war between two sides trying to reach a decision – right and wrong, truth and falsehood, light and dark.

The planet of scrutiny and judgement, Saturn, is now firmly ensconced in Libra until the fall of 2012. It will be joined this Thursday by Mars as the planet of force enters Libra for a short visit lasting until mid-September. Mars, the ruler of feisty Aries, will bring power, energy and kinetic energy to all issues involving judgments.

An international enquiry has determined that North Korea sank a South Korean warship. North Korea bitterly denies this and has promised of a “physical” response in response to joint US-South Korean military drills now taking place. This is a struggle over judgment and justice.

The exposure of over 90,000 classified US military documents on Wikileaks.org has brought the west’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan under severe scrutiny. Wait though, don’t be surprised to see Wikileaks.org come under some sort of legal scrutiny as the status quo (Saturn) strikes back.

Today, a Utah Supreme Court overturned the conviction of polygamist Warren Steed Jeffs and ordered a new trial – again, another case of Saturn in Libra highlighting trials and judgments.

The new Arizona Immigration law SB1070 comes into force this Thursday July 29. Isn’t that the day that Mars enters Libra? Why, yes it is. And it’s no accident. Mars is the action planet. Stuff happens with Mars. A federal judge may block it, but no announcement has yet been made. Demonstrations are being planned. The pressure is mounting.

It truly is a marvel to watch planetary themes play out on the stage of our human experience.
