The current 29.5-day lunar month is down to the last two days. The moon is a super slim left-sided crescent. It is approaching the Sun from the right (west) and will disappear into the golden orb late tomorrow. The New Moon and the start of the next lunar month takes place on Wed Sept 8 at 6:30am.

But this is not any ordinary New Moon. It is a particularly powerful one. It is the second in a series of 3 such Moons. The first took place on September 8 and the third will come on October 7. It is very powerful for this reason: the Moon as it orbits the Earth is not equidistant from us. It follows an elliptical (egg-shapes) orbit. We are closer to one end of that egg-shape which means that the Moon, once-a-month, makes a close approach the Earth than the rest of the month. This is called a ‘perigee.’

Now when a perigee takes place at the same time as New or Full Moon, it unleashes a tsunami of power. Ocean tides reach more extreme levels, severe weather strikes, powerful earthquakes occur and volcanic activity spikes. The effect is also translated into our daily human experience. You’ll probably notice more sirens blaring, heavier traffic and a rise in human aggression both in your environment and in current events.

August was a rough month in all of the above. Hurricane Earl has already barrelled up the eastern seaboard of the US and Canada. The new lunar month that begins this Wednesday looks set to bring more of the above.

Powerful New Moons such as these can bring great things too, though. If your resolve is firm and determined, and your mood is confident and optimistic, the power of the Moon will work positively on your behalf. You could shift a mountain of problems out of your life and see doors open up to exciting new opportunities.
