Dolphins are ‘non-human people’
Seeds are being planted with Tuesday’s New Moon. Make a note of conversations and events taking place in your life and watch them develop over the next two weeks of the waxing Moon. Some seeds won’t take this time around, but the most important ones will.
Seeds have been planted in the global picture too. Take a look at the headlines in the news. The seeds are there. Let’s look at that tomorrow.
As usual, most of the news is negative, but something very positive was reported yesterday. It’s important that we don’t miss it. It’s a good seed and it’s been planted with this New Moon in Pisces.
Neptune, known as Poseidon in more ancient times, is the ruler of the seas. Neptune’s entry into Pisces, the sign it rules, earlier this month on February 4 is an indication that news will emerge out of the oceanic depths of the world. It enters Pisces once every 165 years. The last time it did so was ikn 1847.
In April 2011, Neptune returned to its home sign, but then backed up and re-entered Aquarius in August 2011 due to its retrograde cycle. This time it will remain in Pisces through to 2026.
Neptune’s tentative foray into Pisces last year coincided with mass extinctions of fish all around the world. This year dolphins are beaching themselves in large numbers at Cape Cod and Peru.
Yet, amongst on all the dire news something good has emerged. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is having its 2012 annual meeting in Vancouver. A panel of researchers presented compelling evidence that whales and dolphins should qualify as “non-human people,” or individuals with self –awareness and a set of rights, to be protected.
Cetacean brains are among the biggest (in relation to their size) and most complex brains on the planet. Dolphins have shown evidence that they can understand numbers, abstract concepts, and can recognize themselves in the mirror. They’ve even been seen using tools to catch fish. Whale species have their own distinct culture and traditions. A documentary on Canada’s CBC TV a few weeks ago studied how dolphins are being used to help people recover from psychological trauma.
We could ask why Man has taken so long to reach this point of understanding. And it’s only a faint voice at best, but it is emerging with greater confidence. Perhaps, it’s an indication that a new young breed of scientists is now coming of age. A new world is close to hatching as the old world indicated by the Mayan Long Count Calendar comes to an end.
A new paradigm is of compassion could well be emerging that will lead to the end of human and animal suffering. Nature communicates to us in ways we simply can’t understand. Let’s hope that our consciousness expands so that we can begin to hear it again.
