DAILY THOUGHT
PERSEID METEOR SHOWER
The annual Perseid meteor shower is back in the news again. It comes every year from about July 17 to August 24 as our planet Earth traverses the orbital path of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Its path is filled with comet dust and debris that flare up into meteors when they hit the Earth’s atmosphere. The last time this comet passed by was in 1992. We have to wait another 134 to 2126 for the next visit.

The meteors appear to come from the direction of the constellation Perseus, hence the name Perseids. The peak this year is this weekend on the mornings of August 11, 12 and 13. The intensity of the display is unpredictable, but we could be in for a surprise, despite the brightness of the Full Moon.
